A Dining Experience to Remember
It was unusually warm for Seattle for May. I drove with the windows down through the lush farmland of the Snoqualmie Valley to meet friends at the Flavour Bistro. One of them asked me beforehand “you like good food, right?” Yes. Yes I do. And I want to taste everything. Thankfully on this night I was dining with other “tasters” so we agreed from the beginning that we would order a few things for the whole table to share. I highly recommend this strategy whenever it is feasible.
In the back of an older building on the main drag of Duvall, the restaurant is almost hidden away. You have to be looking or you wont find it. It is worth looking for.
Upon seating you are served some nibble. On this particular night it was popcorn with infused truffle oil and Parmesan. Next came the wine list and while I can’t personally say that I know anything about wine, the people I was with assured me that this was a good list. While I’m going to talk about food for a while, let me just assert that the service was excellent from beginning to end – friendly and capable, but not overbearing.
We started with the dungeness crab fondue. It was almost too pretty to eat, however we did finish it before I got a picture. It was rich and creamy with a great texture to the croutons.
Next came the smoked scallops. The smell of smoke was intense as the lid was lifted. The smell really added to the flavor. I put a video of this lovely presentation on my facebook page which you can see here:

The next course was the Crispy Duroc Pork Belly served with truffle whipped potatos and ribbons of squash. While this was very good it was probably my least favorite item of the night. I think the texture of pork belly is interesting in general.
Lucky for us the final entree was the best. From the menu :
Lobster Leek PappardelleShallots, roasted garlic, leeks, parmesan cheese, in truffle cream, baguette
It was rich and so flavorful that it literally filled my mouth with goodness. I can almost taste it now just thinking about it. I joked as we were done that I was going to lick the bowl when we were done. Well I half joked. I really wanted to. I didn’t because I’m a grown up and this was a nice place. But I could have.
We shared two desserts at the end – the tiramasu and the molten chocolate lava cake. It was by far the best tiramasu I’ve ever had. It was served with blueberries which made it even better. And the lava cake was as delicious of course.
The pricing is consistent for what you pay at a nice restaurant. For example the kids menu items ranged from $11-14. This is not a restaurant I would take my kids to simply because they wouldn’t appreciate it. But for a date night, a girl’s night, or just a night when you want to really eat well, this is a marvelous place.
